My approach to conducting and teaching is to cultivate a lifelong love of music with students while helping them to achieve their best in rehearsal and performance. I believe that all students want to learn, grow, and rise to a challenge.
Kristin Kunzelman

Kristin Kunzelman is thrilled to join Golden State Youth Orchestra! She loves supporting music students and having fun making great music together.
Kristin has over twenty years of experience in music education, and has taught elementary, middle and high school music on the peninsula. She strives to cultivate a lifelong love of music with her students while helping them to achieve their best in rehearsal and performance. Her ensembles consistently earned top ratings at festivals year after year. Kristin has presented several clinics at the state CASMEC conference for music educators as well as local school district in-service days. She loves to travel, led student Yosemite trips for over a decade, and has supported several international youth orchestra trips. Kristin also served as the Deputy Director of Programs at the nonprofit Music for Minors for two years, helping bring music to bay area classrooms with limited funding.
Kristin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and earned a Master’s degree in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She currently plays flute with the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra and maintains a CA K-12 Teaching Credential. Kristin also owns a private practice treating chronic pain patients. Outside of conducting and helping patients, she enjoys attending live music, cooking, yoga, planning her next travel adventures, and cheering on the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors.
