Minseo Kim

Flute, March Festival Concert

Minseo Kim is a junior in California High School and has been playing the flute for 6 years. She is a student of Ai Goldsmith for 5 years and has been part of the Golden State Youth Orchestra for 4 years. She has participated in masterclasses with Marina Piccinini, Robert Stallman, and Isabelle Chapuis.

Minseo is a recipient of various prizes and honors, including a 2nd prize from the Silicon Valley Philharmonic Music Competition Woodwinds High School Winds category (2020), 67th Annual Junior Bach Festival Winner, US Open Music Competition 3rd prize (2017), and SJYS Flute Choir Soloist (2016). Minseo has participated in the California All State Honor bands and orchestra, including the 2022 High School Honor Orchestra as the Principal flutist), High School Concert Band (2020), High School Wind Symphony (2019), and Junior High School Symphony Band (2018) as the Principal flutist.

In 2020, when in-person rehearsals and performances had been canceled, Minseo founded a virtual youth symphony Especially For You to continue playing music with her peers, fundraise, and provided live stream concerts to more than ten nursing homes. Especially For You is still active and musicians from United States, Philippines, Mexico, and South Korea now participate in its projects.

Minseo is interested in many different genres of music and enjoys seeking new styles in which she can participate as a performer, including playing in a hip-hop based song “Myself” by SOLE in the summer of 2021.

Minseo is very excited to perform and present her music to everyone and would like to thank GSYO for giving her this opportunity.
