Piano Concerto Competition

The piano competition is for piano soloists ages 6 - 18, open to the community as well as GSYO Members.

The concerto winner(s) will be scheduled to perform with the Senior Symphony, Camilla Kolchinsky Orchestra, or other GSYO ensemble(s) as appropriate, during the 2022-2023 Season.

Preliminary Round - Deadline March 7, 2022

All applications will be evaluated in a preliminary video round. Please video record yourself performing the solo part of your concerto or concerto movement(s), 10 minutes maximum (skip measures without solo) and provide an internet link in the form below. If your piece exceeds ten minutes, please choose ten minutes from the solo.

No accompaniment is permitted for the preliminary round video, and the video does not need to be high-quality (average smartphone or laptop with video camera will do). The piece should be performed live and without any evidence of editing. Once uploaded to the internet, please make sure the video is public (or unlisted) and can be viewed without a login.

Please note:

  • The concerto must have orchestral accompaniment available for purchase or rental.
  • The movement(s) performed in the preliminary round must be the movement(s) to be performed at the live competition and in concert.
  • Works performed during the current season are not recommended for this competition.

Applications are due by March 7, 2022 11:59 PM PST. This is a firm deadline. Late (time-stamped on March 8 or later) or incomplete applications will not be accepted- fill in all information below.

There is a $45 fee due with the application. This fee is non-refundable.

The list of participants invited to the live competition and the appointment schedule will be posted in early April. Please check the website for your status.

Competition Day - April 24, 2022

The concerto should be memorized and performed with an accompanist at the live audition. If needed, GSYO can provide names of accompanists; however competitors must organize their own rehearsals, audition schedule, and payment to accompanist. Location to be announced.
