El Camino Wind Orchestra

The El Camino Wind Orchestra (ECWO), conducted by Dr. Richard Roper, is a woodwind, brass, and percussion intermediate level ensemble composed of bright young middle and high school students from across the Bay Area.

ECWO musicians experience a wide breadth of repertoire, ranging from classical transcriptions to modern works just a few years old.

Students are given thorough instruction in ensemble balance and intonation while experiencing a rigorous challenge of their technical skills. The ECWO serves as a training ensemble for some students, but it is also often a destination for musicians who prefer a wind orchestra program to a full orchestra.

Honors Wind Ensemble

By invitation of Dr. Roper, a wind ensemble composed of El Camino Wind Orchestra’s most advanced members, will learn, in addition to their ECWO music, more challenging repertoire to be performed at concerts during the season. Regular ECWO rehearsals extended by 30 minutes per week for Honors players.

The ECWO season runs September through May, and the musicians perform in three concerts during the year.

Wind Orchestra musicians are encouraged to enroll in GSYO Summer Conservatory and GSYO Solo Competitions.
